Eating my way through Disney One Cake at a Time

I grew up loving everything about Disney from mickey mouse to every single princess. So, Disney was always part of the list when choosing a vacation destination. When I was younger eating at Disney was the least of my worries, so my meals would consist of anything that would calm my appetite. My family and I would mostly eat turkey legs because we thought that was one of the healthiest options. This time we decided to change things up and do some research beforehand on where and what to eat when venturing through the magical world of Disney. During this trip, I was not only amazed by the many new rides, but also by the food (especially desserts). I wanted to write a post on the top 10 best foods to eat at Disney, but since we tried so many desserts I changed things up and decided to share my  TOP 10 ” you must try ” Disney-desserts. Read till the end to find my TOP 1!!

10. Chocolate Extinction

Where: T-REX at Disney Springs
Price: $17.99

If you like dinosaurs and  Rain Forest Cafe kind of food, then you need to have dinner at the T-REX in Disney Springs. The restaurant itself is really cool, we got seated in the ice-age themed area of the restaurant and the ice would change of color every fifteen mins or so.  The food was good and to end our dinner we decided to have the chocolate Extinction dessert. It is a Chocolate fudge cake with ice cream, whipped topping, fudge and caramel sauce plus Butterfinger® crumbs. It is served with a cup filled with liquid nitrogen, so when it gets to the table it is full of smoke.  This dessert was big enough to feed four people and the cake is divided into four equal portions which made it so easy for us to share. In the end, we couldn’t finish it because it was way too big.

9. Pineapple DOLE WHIP Cup

Where: Tamu Tamu Refreshments at Animal Kingdom
Price: $4.49

I’ve seen so many videos and reviews of how good the pineapple Dole Whip is, so I promised myself I had to try it! After walking around Animal kingdom I got so thirsty and instead of getting a water I had the Dole Whip. The flavor was so rich and fresh. It is the perfect refreshment on a summer day. Even though the flavor didn’t disappoint me it took me a while to finish it and I blame it on the fact that on that day I only had chocolate waffles for breakfast, so I was probably overwhelmed by the sweetness. So, my advice … have it after a savory lunch and not after a very sweet breakfast like me, it would make your experience more enjoyable.

8. Mickey Ice Cream Bar

Where: Basically in every ice cream cart around the parks
Price: $5.00

If you come to the Disney you need/must have a Mickey Ice cream Bar. This is my old time favorite and I can’t leave Disney without having one. The Vanilla ice-cream covered in chocolate is so yummy and the shape is so cute. If you are more into ice cream sandwiches, you’ll be happy to know Disney has Mickey-shaped ice cream sandwiches that are as good as this ice-cream bar.

7. Triple Chocolate Cupcake

Where: Be Our Guest Restaurant at Magic Kingdom
Price: $4.99

Be Our guest was my favorite restaurant during our Disney trip. The food was amazing and the ambiance was magical. You feel like you are eating at the castle from The Beauty and the Beast. When it came to choosing my entree I had no trouble since I was craving steak, but when it came to deciding on what dessert to have I was so indecisive. The server brought a little cart with all the delicious dessert options. Each dessert looked beautifully made. Since my family and I wanted to try different desserts we decided to choose three different ones and share them. This Triple chocolate cupcake was my first pick. It is a Chocolate Sponge Cake with Chocolate Mousse Filling and Chocolate Ganache. The sponge was moist and the chocolate filling was delicious.  The cupcake was garnished with chocolate balls, a raspberry, and a piece of artisan chocolate. I loved the little details!

6. Créme Brûlée

Where: Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie at Epcot France showcase
Price: $4.50

I can’t say NO to a good Créme Brûlée! For those who don’t know what a Créme Brûlée is, I will narrow it down for you: Caramelized Vanilla Custard. Sounds simple, but its flavor is unbelievable. If you want to have a delightful experience trying this delicious dessert then go to Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie at Epcot France showcase, I can tell you it is on my top 3 of best Créme Brûlées I’ve ever had.  (Picture: Down- left side)

5. Lemon Meringue Cupcake

Where: Be Our Guest Restaurant at Magic Kingdom
Price: $4.99

Another mouthwatering dessert from Be Our Guest. When a cupcake meets lemon pie, that’s how I would describe this cupcake. The Sponge Cake with Lemon Custard Filling and Flamed Meringue Icing was a perfect combination. The sweet and the tartness of the lemon was perfectly balanced. And let’s not talk about the presentation. I think the picture below says it all.

4. Napoleon

Where: Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie at Epcot France showcase
Price: $4.50

Napoleon took me back to my childhood and eating a famous dessert that in Colombia we call Milhojas. The dessert is basically Puff Pastry layered with Cream and that’s what Napoleon was. I am very picky about creams and icing. If it is too sweet I won’t be able to eat it, but this cream was so good I couldn’t stop myself from eating it. I think Napoleon if that type of dessert that you can have in your fridge and eat it on daily basis and not get tired of it.

3. Duo
Where: Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie at Epcot France showcase
Price: $5.75

Before going to Epcot I read tons of reviews on places to eat at and what to eat. Most people would constantly talk about Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie at Epcot’s France showcase, so I had to go! As soon as I got there the line was so long. I stand in line for about 40 minutes to get three desserts, but it was totally worth the wait. I am going, to be honest, I picked Duo (picture below) because of its appearance. I didn’t know what was inside of it, but the presentation was breathtaking and I was feeling hopeful that it would taste as good as it looked. And I wasn’t wrong, this white and dark chocolate mousse cake was so tasty, it melted in my mouth. That’s why I had to put it on my top 3.  Duo was a complete delicacy, not only because of its presentation, but for its magnificent white &dark chocolate taste.

2. The “Grey Stuff”
Where: Be Our Guest Restaurant at Magic Kingdom
Price: $4.99

Do you remember the Be Our Guest song on Beuty and the Beast and when Belle is tasting the “grey stuff” in one of the scenes? If you do, I have good news for you:  You can actually try the “grey stuff” at Disney!!! The grey stuff is a white chocolate cheesecake tart, topped with a gray frosting and garnished with edible metallic chocolate pearls. I did some research and found out this dessert was created by the executive pastry chef Stefan Riemer. Riemer gently adds crushed chocolate cookies and cocoa powder into a cream mixture to achieve the ideal gray color. I might be wrong, but that frosting tasted like Oreos, yumm!! I love the story behind it and I love how all these flavors blend in perfectly. This was definitely my favorite dessert at the Be Our Guest restaurant.

1.Blueberry Cream Cheese Mousse
Where: Satu’li Canteen at Animal Kingdom
Price: $5.29

I recently visited the world of Pandora at Animal kingdom and had dinner with my family at Satu’li Canteen where I stumble upon my TOP 1 dessert!! This is not only my number one dessert at Disney world, but also one of the best desserts I’ve ever tried. First of all looked at the picture below… by just looking at it this is more than just a dessert, is a piece of art. The vibrant Na’vi ( the indigenous that live in Pandora) colors and the different textures make this dessert instantly appealing to the human eye. I was mesmerized by the appearance until I read the dessert’s description on the menu “Blueberry Cream Cheese Mousse with Passion Fruit Curd”, I was kinda disappointed. I am more of a chocolate person and I rarely order fruity desserts. Regardless, I decided to give it a try. As soon as I took the first spoon I realized how amazing it was. The blueberry cream cheese mousse was creamy and delicious. The passion fruit curd gave it the right amount of acidity making the dessert so flavorful.  Let’s not forget about the meringue on top and the piece of white chocolate to garnish. Pure delicacy!

Thank you for reading and I hope you get to try all these desserts on your next visit to Disney!!
